U.S. Congressman Lynn Westmoreland began serving in Congress in January of 2005 after 12 years of legislative service in the Georgia state House of Representatives. Due to redistricting, Lynn's district number is changing from the Eighth District to the Third District.
In the 109th Congress, Lynn serves on the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, the Small Business Committee, and the Government Reform Committee.
Lynn's service on the Transportation Committee enables him to focus on the many transportation needs of the Third District. He also serves on the Aviation Subcommittee, which oversees all operations of the Federal Aviation Administration and airports across the country. Lynn also serves as the vice-chair of the Railroad Subcommittee, which oversees federal issues related to railroads in the nation.
The Small Business Committee depends on Lynn's experience as a small business owner as it works on overseeing all programs from the Small Business Administration and assisting in encouraging business growth and development across the country.
Lynn's focus as a fiscal conservative is valuable to the Government Reform Committee, as he works with other members to uncover government waste, fraud, and abuse. This year, Government Reform has, with Lynn's assistance, recommended the creation of task forces to eliminate government programs.
Prior to his service in Congress, Lynn served as the Republican Leader of the Georgia House of Representatives for three years, and took the leadership role in fighting proposed increases in taxes. Lynn also played a significant role preparing the Republican caucus to take the majority.
Lynn and his wife of 36 years, Joan, live in Grantville, in Coweta County. Prior to moving to Coweta County, Lynn and Joan lived in Fayette County for over 25 years, where Lynn worked as a builder, working in all aspects of the construction trade, including land development.
Lynn and Joan have three children and five grandchildren. They attend Southcrest Church. |
